Bernadette Koranteng is a Figurative Artist from Jarrow, now based in Tantobie, County Durham. She is best known for her atmospheric charcoal and pastel figure drawings and mixed-media narrative paintings.
Bernadette studied at the Royal Academy of Art in London where she was awarded the Sir Eric Kennington Drawing Prize and the Sir James Knott Scholarship. This sparked a lifelong passion for drawing the human form, which still remains the main inspiration for her work. Working in oils. fluid pen and ink or textural pastel she celebrates the strength and beauty of the human form. Mixed-media collage pieces combine loose, abstract areas with more controlled drawing, often using found items and fragments of text to explore a variety of personal narratives.
She has exhibited widely in venues such as the National Portrait Gallery, Royal Academy of Art, Royal Festival Hall and has work in private collections.
